iOS 27.2 arrives with Siri AI in five new languages and 160+ security fixes
Apple shipped iOS 27.2 and iPadOS 27.2 on 26 October 2026, adding Siri AI in French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish for iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max and iPhone 16 models and later. The release also brings a black-and-white Apple Music icon, SynthID watermarking in Photos and Image Playground, Apple TV profiles with four-stream Multiview, group-call Dual Capture in FaceTime and Apple Pencil (USB-C) support on the iPhone Duo. Apple's security notes cover roughly 163 CVE entries, none of them flagged as exploited in the wild.
The details
- Apple released iOS 27.2 and iPadOS 27.2 on 26 October 2026, with GSMArena reporting the rollout a day later on 27 October 2026, and the update installs over the air from Settings > General > Software Update.
- Apple's security document for the release, dated 26 October 2026, lists it for iPhone 11 and later, iPad Pro 12.9-inch (4th generation and later), iPad Pro 11-inch (2nd generation and later), iPad Air (4th generation and later), iPad (9th generation and later) and iPad mini (6th generation and later), so every device able to run iOS 27 or iPadOS 27 is covered.
- The update patches more than 160 vulnerabilities – roughly 163 CVE entries on Apple's security page – and none of them carry Apple's note that the issue may have been actively exploited.
- Siri AI gains five languages in iOS 27.2: French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish; the features are listed for iPhone 16 models and later plus iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, and Siri AI remains unavailable in the EU and mainland China.
- Siri can now recall past conversations, draw on photos attached in Messages, Calendar attendees, voicemails and Safari history and Reading List, and adds an Excluded Apps setting plus granular text selection for copying part of a response.
- Apple Music is rebranded with a black-and-white app icon in place of the red one, blue replacing red as the accent colour in the navigation bar and refreshed widgets with black backgrounds, while Messages Suggestions – pulled before iOS 27 shipped – returns with tappable shortcuts for Calendar, Reminders, Notes, Maps and Flights and Packages.
- Photos adds Google's SynthID watermarking to Image Playground output and to Extend, Reframe and large Clean Up edits, which can be checked against Google's SynthID Detector site, while Shared Albums gain editable captions and comments, duplicate avoidance and a reminder before an album expires.
- The Apple TV app brings profiles to iPhone and iPad – each with its own playback history, queue and recommendations, with child profiles defaulting to a PG rating – and expands Multiview to iPhone for up to four simultaneous live sports streams, including MLS, F1 in the United States and Friday Night Baseball doubleheaders.
- FaceTime extends Dual Capture, which streams the front and rear cameras at once, to Group FaceTime calls on iPhone 17 models, iPhone Air, iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max and iPhone Duo, and lets users add a third-party sign language interpreter or live captioner to a call.
- The iPhone Duo picks up support for Apple Pencil (USB-C) – Apple Pencil Pro and other models are not supported – along with Edge Light for video calls, while the Home app adds Lock After Closing and Door Left Open alerts and HomePod Lock Controls that require both the iPhone and the HomePod to run 27.2.
