Canon EOS R8 Mark II adds IBIS and 40 fps burst at $1,899
Canon's EOS R8 Mark II pairs a 24.2-megapixel full-frame sensor with five-axis in-body stabilisation in a 546g body, shooting 40 fps bursts and uncropped 6K-oversampled 4K 60p, and ships in late October at $1,899 body-only.

- Canon U.S.A. announced the EOS R8 Mark II on 15 September 2026.
- Canon's press release describes the EOS R8 Mark II as the lightest EOS camera with In-Body Image Stabilization.
- The camera uses a 24.2-megapixel full-frame CMOS sensor with standard ISO speeds reaching up to 102400.
- The body carries a 5-axis In-Body Image Stabilizer with Coordinated Control and Peripheral Coordinated Control to suppress edge blur on wide-angle lenses.
- PetaPixel reports that Canon rates the stabilisation at up to 7.5 stops of shake correction in the centre of the frame and seven stops at the periphery.
- Newsshooter lists the body weight as approximately 499 g, or approximately 546 g with battery and card, in a body measuring approximately 131.4 x 90.0 x 79.7 mm.
- The camera shoots at up to 40 fps with the electronic shutter, and at 6.0 fps with the electronic first-curtain shutter.
- Video recording covers uncropped 6K-oversampled 4K at up to 60p and uncropped Full HD at up to 180p, in XF-HEVC and XF-AVC formats at 10-bit 4:2:2.
- Autofocus is Dual Pixel CMOS AF II with 100% coverage, tracking people, animals and vehicles.
- Canon quotes a 58% increase in uninterrupted JPEG shots and a 30% increase when shooting RAW compared with the original EOS R8.
Why it matters
In-body stabilisation has been the dividing line between Canon’s entry full-frame bodies and the ones above them. Putting it in the lightest EOS body moves that line down a tier.
