Samsung splits the Fold in three: Fold8 Ultra, Fold8, Flip8

Unveiled in London on 22 July and on sale in 106 markets from 7 August, with UK prices running from GBP 1,149 for the Flip8 to GBP 2,409 for a 1TB Fold8 Ultra.

The details

  • Announced at Galaxy Unpacked in London on 22 July 2026; pre-orders opened the same day in selected markets and sales began 7 August 2026 in 106 markets.
  • Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra is the first Ultra-branded foldable: 8.0-inch QXGA+ (2,504 x 2,256) Dynamic AMOLED 2X main screen, 6.5-inch FHD+ cover screen, 4.1 mm thick unfolded, 8.9 mm folded, 215 g.
  • Fold8 Ultra rear cameras: 200 MP wide (OIS, f/1.7, 2x optical-quality zoom), 50 MP ultra-wide (f/1.9, 120-degree), 10 MP telephoto (OIS, f/2.4, 3x optical), with HDR now supported in 200 MP mode.
  • Fold8 Ultra runs Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy, up to 16 GB RAM with 1 TB storage, a 5,000 mAh dual battery and 45 W wired charging via a new dual-path architecture.
  • Galaxy Z Fold8: 7.6-inch QXGA+ (1,848 x 2,448) main screen in a 4:3 ratio, 5.5-inch WUXGA+ cover screen, 4.5 mm unfolded, 9.7 mm folded, 201 g, 4,800 mAh battery, dual 50 MP rear cameras.
  • Galaxy Z Flip8 measures 6.1 mm unfolded and 13.1 mm folded at 180 g, with a 6.9-inch FHD+ main screen, a 4.1-inch cover screen and a 50 MP main camera.
  • Both Folds use Samsung's Flex Titanium display structure to cut crease visibility; main screens reach up to 3,000 nits.
  • All three ship on Android 17 with One UI 9, are rated IP48, and carry Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6.0.
  • Colours: Graphite and Cream across the range, plus Violet Shadow (Fold8 Ultra), Lavender (Fold8) and Pink (Flip8); Samsung.com exclusives are Green Shadow, Pistachio and Mint.
  • Samsung says pre-orders for the new Galaxy Z line were more than 30 per cent higher than for the previous generation; Graphite led both Fold models and Pink led the Flip8.
  • Galaxy Watch Ultra2 and Galaxy Watch9 went on sale in the same 106 markets on the same date.
  • Fold8 Ultra and Fold8 are also sold as Enterprise Edition models with a three-year warranty, next-business-day replacement and up to seven years of security and maintenance releases.
  • Buyers get a six-month Google AI Pro trial with 5 TB of storage, valued by Samsung at USD 119.94.

Why it matters

Samsung has stopped treating the book-style foldable as one product, offering a lighter mainstream Fold, a productivity-focused Ultra and a slimmer Flip in the same generation, with the Ultra tier pushing its foldable ceiling past GBP 2,400 in the UK.
