OM System pushes PEN launch in Japan from 30 Oct to 28 Nov after pre-order surge
OM Digital Solutions has put back the Japanese launch of its retro Micro Four Thirds PEN from 30 October to 28 November 2026, its third supply notice in about six weeks. The company says pre-orders ran far ahead of its expectations and that it will first clear orders confirmed by 10 September, after an earlier notice warned some buyers may wait until spring 2027. The delay is confined to Japan: the camera is already shipping in the US at $999.99, while the UK store takes pre-orders from GBP 849 and the Australian site lists it from AUD 1,499.
The details
- OM Digital Solutions published a notice on 21 October 2026 postponing the Japanese launch of the OM SYSTEM PEN and related accessories from 30 October 2026 to 28 November 2026.
- It is the third PEN supply notice OM System Japan has posted in about six weeks, following notices dated 10 September 2026 and 7 October 2026 on the company's information page.
- OM System attributed the postponement to pre-orders far exceeding its initial expectations, saying a 30 October launch would have let only some customers receive a camera on day one depending on model and colour.
- The company said it would first supply customers whose orders were confirmed by 10 September 2026, the date of its first delivery-delay apology.
- The 7 October 2026 notice had fixed 30 October as the release date while warning that, depending on product type and colour, delivery "may not take place until spring 2027 or later" even for customers who had already pre-ordered (OM Digital statement, translated by 43rumors, 10 October 2026).
- The PEN launch campaign entry deadline moved from 19 November 2026 to 19 April 2027, with postmarked entries accepted that day and web registration closing at 15:00; the entry form is expected to open around 28 November 2026.
- The campaign purchase window is unchanged at 9 September to 5 November 2026, and offers a choice of up to 10,000 yen e-gift cashback on the double zoom kit, 5,000 yen on the body or 14-42mm III lens kit, or an ARTISAN&ARTIST leather strap or Gearbox Pro, with some gift deliveries from May 2027.
- Other markets were unaffected: OM System's US store lists the PEN as "Now Shipping" from $999.99 with the silver body in stock, the UK store takes pre-orders from GBP 849 and the Australian site lists it from AUD 1,499.
- Japanese pricing is open, with Kamera no Kitamura listing the camera at 133,650 yen and the OM SYSTEM Store at 148,500 yen as of 21 October 2026.
