Apple opens iPhone Duo app submissions; India pre-orders 16 October from Rs 2,99,900

Apple began accepting iPhone Duo-optimised apps on 5 October, with full-screen support tied to the iOS 27.1 SDK, ahead of its first foldable's 23 October launch; in India, pre-orders open at 5:30 PM IST on 16 October from Rs 2,99,900.
The details
- Apple told developers on 5 October 2026 that apps and games optimised for iPhone Duo can now be submitted through App Store Connect.
- Apple says Xcode 27.1 adds development support for iPhone Duo, recommends recompiling existing apps with it, and says Xcode's Device Hub shows how an app behaves on iPhone Duo across all poses and orientations.
- Apple's developer guidance says apps built with the iOS 26 SDK or earlier appear in the centre of the open inner display with empty space around them, apps built with the iOS 27 SDK fill most of it, and only apps built with the iOS 27.1 SDK or later extend to the full display; MacRumors describes unoptimised apps as showing black borders.
- Apple says that starting in April 2027, any app or game submitted to the App Store must include screenshots for iPhone Duo, and that a new preview tool in App Store Connect shows how screenshots and product page headers will look on the device.
- Apple announced iPhone Duo, its first foldable iPhone, on 9 September 2026; it ships with iOS 27.1 and pairs a 7.6-inch inner Super Retina XDR display with a 5.4-inch outer Super Retina XDR display, both rated for up to 3,000 nits peak outdoor brightness.
- iPhone Duo runs Apple's A20 Pro chip, built on a 2-nanometer process, whose 6-core CPU Apple rates as up to 20% faster than the A19 Pro, with a custom vapor chamber for cooling.
- The rear cameras are a 48MP Fusion Main camera, which Apple says offers an optical-quality 2x telephoto, and a 48MP Fusion Ultra Wide camera, while a FaceTime camera sits beneath the inner display.
- The enclosure is grade 5 titanium and the phone is rated IP68 (up to 6 metres for 30 minutes under lab conditions), with Touch ID in the side button and an eSIM-only design.
- Apple quotes up to 31 hours of video playback on the inner display and up to 44 hours on the outer display, and up to 50% charge in around 20 minutes with fast wired charging.
- Apple India lists the 256GB model at Rs 2,99,900, the 512GB at Rs 3,24,900, the 1TB at Rs 3,74,900 and the 2TB at Rs 4,49,900, in Star White and Night Sky, with pre-orders from 5:30 PM IST on 16 October and availability from 23 October.
- In the US, iPhone Duo is priced from $1,999 for 256GB to $3,199 for 2TB; Apple says pre-orders open on 16 October in more than 70 countries and regions, including India, with 28 more countries and regions following on 30 October.

- Rs 2,99,900 (256GB)

Why it matters
A foldable's larger screen is only useful if apps fill it, and Apple has tied full-screen support on the inner display to rebuilding with the iOS 27.1 SDK, leaving developers 18 days between opening submissions and the 23 October launch; apps built with older SDKs do not use the full inner display. The April 2027 screenshot requirement turns iPhone Duo from an optional target into one every App Store submission must account for. India is in the first launch wave, so Indian buyers can pre-order and receive the phone on the same dates as US buyers.
