Googlebook laptops go on sale from $899 in seven countries; no India date yet

Google's Android-based Googlebook laptops from Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP and Lenovo are now on sale, with Google scheduling store availability from 4 October in the US and from 5 October in six more countries, at US prices from $899 to $1,299; Google has announced no India availability or pricing.
The details
- Googlebook is a new laptop category that combines the Android technology stack with desktop foundations from ChromeOS, with the first five models built by Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP and Lenovo, and Google promises regular feature drops for up to 10 years.
- Google opened pre-orders on 21 September 2026 and said the laptops would reach shelves on 4 October in the US and on 5 October in Canada, the UK, Ireland, France, Germany and Australia, through the Google Store, Best Buy and other select retailers; 9to5Google reported on 5 October that Googlebook was on sale and shipping to customers.
- Google's US starting prices are $899 for the Acer Googlebook 14, $999 for the Dell XPS Googlebook, $1,099 for the Lenovo Googlebook 15, and $1,299 each for the ASUS Googlebook 14 and HP Googlebook 14.
- The Acer, ASUS and Lenovo models use Intel Core Ultra 5 processors and the Dell and HP models use Qualcomm's Snapdragon X Elite, and Google's comparison page lists NPUs rated up to 45 TOPS on the Dell and HP, 47 TOPS on the Acer and Lenovo and 49 TOPS on the ASUS, each configuration with 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage.
- Google lists 14-inch 2.8K OLED touchscreens on the Acer, ASUS and HP models, a 15.3-inch 2.8K OLED touchscreen on the Lenovo and a 13.4-inch 2.5K LCD touchscreen on the Dell XPS Googlebook, and Acer says its model is a convertible with 360-degree hinges.
- Google's category-wide claim is up to 14 hours of battery life, while its per-model claims, based on web-browsing tests, range from up to 13 hours for the Lenovo Googlebook 15 to up to 19 hours for the HP Googlebook 14.
- Phone-integration features include Continue On, which resumes a phone task on the laptop, and Cast My Apps, which streams phone apps into a desktop window, both requiring a phone on Android 17 or later, alongside Gemini features such as Magic Pointer, Rambler and Create My Widget.
- Google's offer terms list 12 months of Google AI Pro with 5TB of storage (a $239.88 value) for Googlebooks purchased and activated on or after 1 October 2026, plus three months each of YouTube Premium and Adobe Photoshop and 12 months of GeForce NOW Fast Pass, but eligibility varies by offer: AI Pro covers Australia, Canada, France, Germany, New Zealand, the UK and the US, the Photoshop offer excludes Canada, and GeForce NOW is limited to the UK, the US, Germany, France and Canada.

- 9to5Google reported on 5 October that Slack's web app could not be installed on Googlebook, returning a "this app cannot be installed" error; Google said Slack's web app is not a compliant PWA and that manual installation of non-PWA web apps is coming to Chrome on Googlebooks soon.

Why it matters
Googlebook moves Google's laptop software onto the Android technology stack and, at $899 to $1,299, places it in the premium laptop segment above the simpler Chromebook line. Its pitch rests on Android phone integration and Gemini features, but day-one gaps such as Slack's web app and bundled offers limited to a handful of countries show the rollout is still uneven, and Indian buyers have no launch date or price to plan around.
