Polaroid Mod puts four analogue creative modes on a dial, $169.99
Polaroid's $169.99 Mod is an analogue instant camera whose dial selects four creative modes — Double Exposure, Split Shot, Motion Freeze and Light Painting — shipping from Polaroid.com on 29 September and US retailers on 6 October 2026.
The details
- Polaroid's own product page lists the camera's four creative modes as Double Exposure, Split Shot, Motion Freeze and Light Painting.
- PetaPixel reports the Mod costs $169.99 and that Digital Camera World lists a UK price of £149.99.
- PetaPixel and DPReview report the camera went on sale via Polaroid.com on 29 September 2026, reaches selected US retailers on 6 October 2026, and reaches other retailers globally in early 2027.
- Polaroid states the camera is compatible with i-Type film and 600 film.
- Polaroid lists a fixed-focus two-lens system: a 94.96 mm close-up lens focusing from 0.40 m to 1.3 m and a 102.35 mm distance lens covering 1.0 m to infinity.
- DPReview states the camera has six usable apertures ranging from F11 to F64.
- Polaroid lists a built-in flash using a vacuum discharge tube strobe system, and a rechargeable lithium-ion battery charged over a Type-C input.
- Digital Camera World states the battery is rated at up to 15 packs of film per charge.
- Polaroid lists the body as 161.7 x 110.2 x 98 mm (6.37 x 4.34 x 3.86 in) and 520 g (18.34 oz) without a film pack, with an LED seven-segment display on the rear.
- PetaPixel reports that Split Shot mode uses an accessory that divides the frame into two halves and rotates 180 degrees between shots, while Motion Freeze fires the flash at the end of the exposure.
- Digital Camera World states Polaroid i-Type film typically costs $18.99 for eight exposures, about $2.25 per photo.
Why it matters
The effects here are produced mechanically at the moment of capture and committed straight to film, so the dial is effectively the entire interface and there is no file to edit afterwards. That makes the Mod a bet that buyers will pay $169.99 plus roughly $2.25 a shot for results that phone software generates for free.
