Sony announces FE 400mm F4.5 GM and FE 600mm F6.3 GM lenses
Sony's two new G Master super-telephoto primes weigh 994g and 995g, use two XD Linear Motors each and 11-blade circular apertures, and ship in October 2026 at $2,699.99 and $3,699.99 in the US.

- Sony announced the FE 400mm F4.5 GM OSS (model SEL400F45GM) and the FE 600mm F6.3 GM OSS (model SEL600F63GM) for its full-frame E-mount Alpha system on 15 September 2026.
- The FE 400mm F4.5 GM OSS weighs approximately 994g excluding the tripod mount and the FE 600mm F6.3 GM OSS weighs approximately 995g.
- Both lenses have a maximum diameter of approximately 108mm, with the 400mm measuring approximately 242mm long and the 600mm approximately 263mm long.
- Sony qualifies its lightest-in-class claim as applying among interchangeable full-frame super-telephoto lenses incorporating a 400mm focal length at F4.5 or faster and a 600mm focal length at F6.3 or faster, as of September 2026 and based on a Sony survey.
- Each lens uses three Super ED glass elements and one ED glass element with an 11-blade circular aperture.
- DPReview reports that the 400mm has 22 elements in 16 groups and the 600mm has 24 elements in 17 groups, with both lenses taking 95mm filters.
- Each lens is driven by two XD Linear Motors, one for each focus group.
- Both lenses are compatible with Sony's 1.4x (SEL14TC) and 2x (SEL20TC) teleconverters, which extend the 600mm to 1200mm.
